How to read this table

Why most popular NFL betting systems lose

Many classic systems sound convincing but lose money once the sportsbook's margin is included. Underdogs, for example, cover the spread slightly more often than favorites over the long run, but rarely by enough to clear the 52.4% bar. The systems that hold up tend to have a physical reason behind them, like wind reducing scoring, rather than a story about public betting. Even then, past results don't guarantee future ones.

Test your own system

The NFL betting backtester tests any idea against every game since 1999: spreads, totals or moneylines, with filters for teams, opponents, line ranges, weather, rest, divisional games and previous results. The strategy finder searches thousands of combinations and checks each one on seasons it never saw, and This Week shows which systems apply to upcoming games.
